The Teaching Colleges and Community Worldwide Online Conference (TCC) is a virtual conference held annually online. This event is designed for faculty, staff and administrators in higher education worldwide to share their expertise and engage in productive forums about innovations and practices that accompany the use of technology in teaching and learning. The first TCC conference was held 25 years ago and participants were engaged asynchronously via email. In this session, we will reflect on the changes in technology and conference format over the years. We will highlight milestones in TCC’s history and share how the partnership with Learning Times helped TCC to become a successful and sustainable online conference.

Research into student perceptions and instructor perspectives show that teaching and learning can be enhanced through the use of OER. This presentation will demonstrate the impact of OER and highlight unique projects that are taking shape at UH Mānoa. It will also provide an overview of current research related to OER and will direct participants to resources that focus on OER research.

4E Principles of Professional Development for Online Faculty
- Helen Torigoe, Instructional Designer, Kapiʻolani Community College
- Jamie Sickel, Instructional Designer, Kapiʻolani Community College
- Youxin Zhang, Instructional Designer, Kapiʻolani Community College
The Teaching Online Prep Program (TOPP) at Kapi‘olani Community College is grounded in four key principles: Empathize, Engage, Emulate and Empower. Contrary to many instructional design-faculty relationships in which the faculty act as a subject matter expert while the instructional designer develops the course, this program takes faculty members through an online course to build empathy for the student experience, engages them in discussions and applied learning scenarios, emulates a model online course, and empowers participants to build, assess, and revise their online courses themselves. The results have been positive, and this presentation will share insights from the 2-time national award winning professional development program.
